Japan's Trademark Law states that a trademark is any character(s), figure(s), sign(s), or three-dimensional shape(s), or any combination thereof, or any combination thereof with colors (Trademark Law Article 2(1)).
However, a taste, smell, or sound such as theme music cannot be a trademark.
