A patent right lasts 20 years from the day on which its application is filed (Patent Law Article 67(1)).
However, if a patented invention, such as a pharmaceutical product or agricultural chemical, is unable to be worked while the owner is awaiting receipt of necessary governmental safety approvals or the like, the right can be extended for up to five (5) more years upon the filing of a request to extend the duration (Patent Law Article 67(2)).
